St Thomas of Canterbury

Catholic Church Longhorsley

Welcome to the website for St Thomas of Canterbury, Longhorsley.

Longhorsley is situated seven miles north west of Morpeth, on the road to Wooler and Coldstream in Scotland.

The Church of St Thomas of Canterbury is next to the Sixteenth Century Longhorsley Tower. The Tower was owned by Catholic Families since the mid-seventeenth century. A Jesuit mission was funded by the Widdringtons in the eighteenth century. When the Tower came into the possession of the Ridell family of Felton in 1792, they introduced Benedictine priests.

The current Church was built in 1841 and is attributed to John Dobson. The Church is grade two listed.

My hope is that you will find a warm welcome in St Thomas’s. There have been many who have prayed and worshipped in this building for many years, and it continues to be a place of prayer and worship to this day with many people gathering for both Sunday and Weekday Mass.

I hope you enjoy browsing our website and the things we have to offer you. Hopefully one day you might join us.

With every blessing.
